I was a teaching assistant for Climate Change Science and Policy, a senior capstone class for the Earth and Planetary Sciences major at UCSC taught by Prof. Patrick Chuang. My lab section emphasized data visualization and science writing skills.
Spring 2017 |
It was a pleasure to be involved in the first year of the MINT program at UCSC (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017). I got a chance to mentor the amazing Tamara Russell, a rising scholar in Ecology, as she prepares for graduate school. I'm mentoring with the program again this year.

Summer 2017: Susan Kelly and I co-teach a section of Natural Hazards: Earthquakes and Climate Change with a group of 20 high school students from around the state.
Summer 2016: Susan Kelly, Susan Schwartz and I co-teach the science of climate change and its societal relevance with an emphasis on the polar regions. |
At the Monterey Bay Area High School Environmental Conference in Spring 2017 I got a chance to talk to outstanding high school students about the far-reaching effects of human GHG emissions and their local actions to mitigate these effects.

Undergraduate field course in South African geology
The geology of the Western Cape of South Africa is wide-ranging and reflects several tectonic events during the formation and break-up of Gondwana. The region also provides valuable records of conditions surrounding the Saharan and Gondwana glaciations as well as related sea level fluctuations.
The South Africa Field Camp is run by Michigan Tech professor James Wood and co-instructed by University of Cape Town professor J.S. Compton. I participated as a Teaching Assistant in 2013 and as a student in 2012. |

I'd love to visit your classroom!
Let me know if I can add value to your science curriculum!
I have participated in elementary and high school classrooms in Santa Cruz County Schools and beyond. I bring enthusiasm and knowledge on topics such as climate change, glaciers and sea ice, and the deep Earth. I can also share my experience as a female scientist doing research at U.S. universities and in the field here and abroad. Contact me at cbranecky 'at' ucsc.edu.
